Pelvic pain during pregnancy?

Pelvic pain is felt in the pelvic area, located in the lowest part of the abdomen. It is extremely common during pregnancy and can affect around 20% of women during pregnancy and 7% still have this pain after giving birth. There can be many causes for this problem but generally it is due to asymmetrical alignment of the pelvis joint and weakness in the lower back and the core and pelvic floor muscles.

Physiotherapy can help alleviate these symptoms and also reduce the risk of incontinence following childbirth. Treatment can comprise of gentle stabilising exercises, taping and advice.
