Recovering from a fracture is a significant journey, and effective Post-Fracture Rehabilitation is crucial for ensuring complete healing, restoring full strength, and regaining optimal movement. At Physio Fitness, our experienced physiotherapists in Hampstead and Finchley, North London, specialise in guiding you safely and effectively through every stage of your recovery, from initial immobilisation to full return to activity.
We understand that a fracture can be a daunting experience, impacting your daily life and limiting your independence. Our tailored rehabilitation programmes are designed to reduce pain, prevent stiffness, rebuild muscle strength, and restore confidence, ensuring you achieve the best possible long-term outcome.
We also have a mobile device that can be worn at the gym at USC Active with the physiotherapist operating it, whilst you are performing specific rehabilitative exercises.
Our greatest asset is our team of dedicated and highly skilled physiotherapists. Each member of the Physio Fitness family is passionate about helping you achieve your health goals, bringing a wealth of experience, specialised knowledge, and a compassionate approach to every session. All of our physiotherapists are fully qualified, HCPC registered, and committed to ongoing professional development to ensure you receive the most effective, evidence-based care.
Fracture rehabilitation typically involves several phases, each with specific goals. Our team works closely with you and often liaises with your orthopaedic surgeon to ensure a seamless and progressive recovery:
Phase 1: Acute Healing & Pain Management (During Immobilisation):
Focus on pain and swelling control.
Maintaining mobility in unaffected joints.
Gentle exercises to prevent muscle wastage in the fractured limb (if safe).
Education on protected weight-bearing (if applicable) and safe daily activities.
Phase 2: Restoring Movement & Initial Strength (After Immobilisation/Cast Removal):
Gentle joint mobilisation to address stiffness.
Gradual introduction of active range of motion exercises.
Beginning targeted strengthening exercises for weakened muscles.
Progression of weight-bearing and gait re-education (for lower limb fractures).
Phase 3: Building Strength, Endurance & Function:
Progressing to more advanced strengthening and resistance exercises.
Improving muscle endurance and power.
Introducing balance and proprioception training (crucial for lower limb and ankle fractures).
Functional exercises to mimic daily activities, work tasks, or sports-specific movements.
Phase 4: Return to Sport / Activity & Injury Prevention:
Sport-specific drills and higher-level functional training.
Agility and plyometric exercises.
Education on injury prevention strategies to minimise the risk of re-fracture or new injuries.
Our comprehensive Post-Fracture Rehabilitation programmes are highly individualised and evidence-based:
Personalised Assessment: A thorough evaluation of your fracture type, healing stage, and individual needs and goals.
Pain & Swelling Management: Techniques to alleviate discomfort and reduce inflammation throughout your recovery.
Manual Therapy: Gentle joint mobilisations and soft tissue techniques to improve flexibility and address stiffness around the fractured area and surrounding joints.
Tailored Exercise Rehabilitation: Progressive exercise programmes designed to gradually restore muscle strength, endurance, and flexibility. This may involve using our gym facilities for effective strengthening.
Gait & Balance Training: For lower limb fractures, we provide expert guidance to re-establish a normal walking pattern and improve balance and stability.
Functional Re-education: Specific exercises that simulate daily tasks, work demands, or sport-specific movements to ensure a safe and confident return to your activities.
Electrotherapy (incl. Ultrasound): Utilisation of modalities like therapeutic ultrasound to accelerate bone and soft tissue healing, and TENS for pain relief, as appropriate.
Ongoing Education & Support: Guidance on proper body mechanics, activity modification, and self-management strategies for long-term well-being.
EXCELLENT Based on 66 reviews Posted on Jo Greenfield04/03/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Sergio at Physio Fitness was absolutely fantastic. He really understood the issues with Mias ankle - and subsequently knee - and made a difference to her movement to the level where she was back on the netball court far quicker than we could have hoped. On top of it he is a really lovely guy and a pleasure to deal with - would recommend to anyonePosted on Elan Mansur20/02/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Saw Thomas for a number of weeks to deal with a nasty mucular and tendon issue. Thomas is a superb physio, knows his business expertise well, and is a great guy. Highly recommended.Posted on Kate Oakley15/01/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've been treated by Sergio Campos for several years now as different needs have arisen and think he is the top of his profession. I've seen him most recently for bursitis of the shoulder where he treated me with a mix of sports massage, dry needling and exercises. This combination meant I could keep exercising, which as a Personal Trainer is key, but safely and whilst healing. He has also successfully treated my teenage son for an acute groin injury where others had failed. My son was delighted to be back playing football several times a week in a no time. Sergio is warm, empathetic, clear in the plan and takes a holistic approach to treatment. Couldn't recommend him more highly.Posted on Andi Georgiou18/12/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Friendly and professional "My physio Sergio was friendly and professional. He helped me to understand the causes of my problem in my neck and hip area and what I could do to alleviate the pain". Plus he gave me various exercises that I could carry out at home that helped tremendously.Posted on N P12/12/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I saw Sergio for my cubital nerve syndrome. He was really helpful, provided excellent advice and support and helped me get stronger. Highly recommend Sergio and Physio Fitness !Posted on Douglas Crawford10/12/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have been using Sergio Campos at Physio Fitness for several years. My son plays lots of football and he has been excellent in treating a variety of injuries/ conditions over that time: from knee to neck and back. He has a great manner with children. He has also greatly helped recovery with a combination of physio, sports massage, ultra-sound treatment, exercises both in a treatment room and in the adjoining gym. In the rare case where he feels physiotherapy will not solve a condition, he quickly will refer on to a doctor or consultant as appropriate.Posted on Joshua Blatt10/12/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I started with Sergio just after my knee surgery in April 2024. To date the recovery has been going well with good progress. There is still some way to go as it’s a lengthy process, but Sergio has been there every step of the way and without him, I would be months behind schedule. It certainly helps that he has had the same injury as me. FY I tore my ACL and had to have full knee reconstruction including ligaments on both sides of the knee and a hamstring graft. Sergio has helped me with a mixture of treatment room and gym-based activities. He has set exercise programmes and targets to enable me to push the recovery forward as quickly and safely as possible. Sergio has time and again shown extra care and attention when setting tasks to be completed in between sessions. When I travel, he makes sure I have videos of the exercises so that I can copy them in my own time. He goes above and beyond to make sure I am making the necessary progress, and equally is not afraid to tell me if I need to brush up on something or pay special attention to a set of exercises for a period of time. I would without doubt recommend Sergio, and I have done several times already to both family and friends.Posted on Simon Gough06/12/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would highly recommend Sergio Campos who has treated me for nerve pain caused by a prolapsed disc.Posted on Alfie05/12/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Sergio is a brilliant physio. Sergio has treated me on a number of injuries for almost a decade. His knowledge and instinct have been truly impressive. I am currently recovering from a sports related groin injury, and Sergio’s various treatment methods, combined with progressive rehab plans, continue to help massively. As a professional footballer, not only have I found his abilities on par with (and better than) other experts within elite sport, but he is a fantastic guy who has treated both my Dad and younger sister. They have been equally appreciative of his talent and warmth.Posted on Max Kasriel05/12/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been seeing Sergio Campos following my Achilles tendon rupture for about five months and I am very happy with the progress that has been made. Sergio has a great attitude - he is positive, enthusiastic and very responsive to questions (including by email). He has laid out a very clear and manageable programme for me to follow which has delivered great results. Would thoroughly recommend.
